Sweeping Generalizations With zooka: I Agree With You, But Shut The fuck Up.

I'm a fairly liberal person and while I've always avoided politics and most social issues I obviously have clear stances on things like equal rights and other topics that seem to divide America (north, central, and south). I feel as if my views are so agreed upon by everyone around me (in las vegas/el paso) that it's shocking whenever I actually do come across someone who is either pro-life or against equal rights for gay people.
Even vegas conservatives tend not to give a shit about either of those enough to make a stink about it.
With this safe guarded lifestyle of social harmony I've found a different problem; The people I technically agree with are kind of fucking annoying in the most hippy-ish way possible. For instance, wearing an Obama shirt in vegas is like wearing an 'I Love Extra Mayonnaise' shirt at a fat person convention (my apologies to all the fatties out there ((my self.. lol)), I know how sensitive you can be...fatty), it's kinda pointless.
Equally pointless are the people who try to sell you something you already bought, I don't mean actual objects, I mean ideals. There's few things worse then getting caught in a conversation with someone who's just prattling on about a cause you're already in full support of. It's like;
"Yeah man, I get it, a woman should have a right to chose. I never thought of that before. I was always more a proponent of forced abortions to all babies born without the possibility of having blonde hair but you've swayed me with your amazing 'it's a woman's choice' argument."
It's basically people just stroking their own ideals, the same ideals agreed upon by 95% percent of the people around them. You wanna make a difference? Go down south or to a church and talk that shit, at least then someone will comeback at you with some backwards ass logic for you to play with.
The beauty of it all is how often do people minds truly get changed? Anyone who has staunch opinions on any of these topics tends to stick to their guns. If someone hates gay people, there's a good chance nothing you could say is gonna change that, it's ingrained in there and it's not going anywhere. The same way you or I support gay rights, and there is no argument that would make us change our minds. The world is notAmerican History X and I guarantee that even after David Duke renounced the KKK, that mother fucker was still not a fan of the blacks and the jews.
Of course, there are the fence sitters who are 'not sure' of where they stand. These are the people who didn't know who they were gonna vote for until they got in the booth, these people are also basically retarded. I understand being torn on something like the death penalty, it's a tricky one because usually there is the harm of other people involved. But shit like people's basic freedoms and rights? You're either for it or against it and if you're not sure, you're very likely an idiot and have no spine anyway.
Basically what I'm getting at is that we all have our opinions and, in the tiny world's we all live in, they are fairly common opinions. Preaching to the choir is for people who have something to prove or people who are weirdly insecure about the issues they so thoroughly support. Because of this insecurity, they put in overtime trying to prove how much they truly do support that cause. I believe it was the rapperScarface who once said;
"Damn it feels good to be a gangsta
and real gangsta ass nigga plays his cards right
a real gangsta ass nigga never runs his fucking mouth
cause real gangsta ass niggas don't start fights"

Indeed. Real people with real beliefs feel no need in jacking off their egos on anyone that will listen. The second you start wearing that shit like a badge you become one of those Obama shirt wearing clowns who makes the rest of us look bad.
They're almost as bad as the Micheal Jackson shirt wearers...but that's whole other topic... and another idea.. lol
